The Logo Network has established a new image of what is commonly known as “domestic housewives” and “the gold standard” with their latest series, “The A-list New York.â€
The newest show on the Logo weekly line up, which was produced by True Entertainment, the creative minds behind Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” stars gay elites: actor, author and model, Reichen Lehmkuhl, celebrity and high fashion photographer, Mike Ruiz, entrepreneur and hair stylist, Ryan Nickulas, former boyfriend to designer Marc Jacobs, and model, Austin Armacost, socialite Derek Lloyd Saathoff, and Reichen’s boyfriend, aspiring model, Rodiney Santiago. “The A-List follows these men as they maneuver their lives in the public eye in New York City.
Lehmkuhl announces that he is starring on Broadway in “My Big Gay Italian Wedding†and has his own jewelry line for men. He donates a portion of his proceeds to fighting the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell†policy.
Ruiz, the show’s creator, is still making the world gasp at his talent for bringing vibrant colors and expression to photographers. As one of the older men on the cast, he makes sure to stay up on his physical fitness.
Ryan Nickulas owns a salon and has booked major clientele like Pam Anderson and Rachel Ray. Nickulas and his husband live in New York with an amazing view of the city.
As for Armacost’s position on the show, he is pudgy, back in New York after a two year sabbatical and wants to be on the A-List again with his fellow acquaintances.
Saathoff seemed to be the show’s token bed jumper. He wants to go where the money is and when it dries up, he’s off on the hunt again.
With the premiere of the show here and now gone, the tone of materialistic expectations on life is too much to bear. Traveling to abroad locations, going to exclusive clubs and being gym rats are some of the things on the top of these men’s lists.
After the first ten minutes of it, the whole aspect of the show became boring, dull and insulting to everyone who was not in on their secret handshakes or access to red carpets. It picks up the pace within an hour, but it will not save this train wreck. It leaves us to wonder how they will top themselves on next week’s episode. And to think, is this what the younger generations of gay men aspire to be in life?
