Healing the Third Reich

Episode Commentary: Heal Hitler

Since Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole debuted a few months ago, each episode has been a test of how far the creative team can take the viewer. First, it was resurrecting the King of Pop himself Michael Jackson. Other times it was Thomas Jefferson and the assessment of his love for his slaves.

This time it’s Adolf Hitler, who travels back in time to meet with the doctor.

Why would he need Victor’s help though? Simple, he doesn’t want to hate Jews anymore.

Again, like most episodes of this show, the premise is completely off the wall, but the overall execution is a tad sloppy. Aside from Hitler’s love affair with a Jewish leg that is torn apart once he tells it of his dark past, this episode wasn’t as funny as it could be.

Things get muddled a bit when Dracula stops by to spend time with Victor’s wife and later for conversations towards the midpoint and ending of the show. With just 15 minutes to play with, this show has to be edited a little tighter. Simply put, there were too many times were the viewer could get bored, waiting for something to happen.

Luckily, if you do wait through the weaker scenes, you’ll be rewarded with some hilarity. Hearing Hitler complain about his upbringing and call Frankenstein’s creation a Jew because he’s constantly complaining is the type of off-beat and dark humor this show should continue to play around with.

If that happens, this show has the potential to be a cult-hit. If not, then it’ll find itself in the graveyard with a host of other creations from Adult Swim that weren’t able to cut it.
