“Sound Off” – Trapt

Good old heavy metal mixed with solid lyrics with a message makes Trapt’s “Sound Off” one amazing song. There are tinges of spirituality enmeshed in rightful angst. It’s definitely worth your time downloading.

“In the Stream” – S. Carey

Self-indulgence with no respect to the audience should be the real title of this song. Whatever S. Carey is going through you won’t care about it. Skip it.

“As Cool as I Am” – Dar Williams

Good guitar playing usually makes any song palatable – usually. In this instance Dar Williams’ voice is just a touch above annoying and compounded with inane lyrics which makes for an unpleasant listening experience.

“Digging for Something” – Superchunk

The lower the volume on this song the better. Unfortunately the average mp3 player only goes to mute. Don’t waste your time on this noise fest.

“Johanna” – Iggy Pop & James Williamson

There’s nothing like good sax and “Johanna” by Iggy Pop & James Williamson has it. The lyrics are fine and Iggy Pop is his classic self, but what makes this song rock is that infectious beat. It’s real rock music, the kind that makes you appreciate the fact you can hear. Go for this one – now.

“Non-Toxic” – Telekinesis

It’s not awful – but do you really want to spend three minutes of your life on something that’s only alright?

“I’ve Got You Under My Skin” – Rod Stewart

Yes he’s had throat surgery and perhaps that’s why Rod Stewart’s rendition of “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” shows off his experience as a performer. His voice has a maturity that’s needed to carry off a track that has been made famous by Frank Sinatra. And although it may not make you forget Ole Blue Eye’s version, it’s still a listenable track.
