Spank Me Sir

Episode Commentary: Escape From Castle

Jonathan doesn’t know how to keep business away from pleasure and George and Ray end up getting caught up in it this episode.

On a case that leads him to a spa, Jonathan takes his two best pals there and anarchy occurs. Between the ridiculous chase scene and Jonathan dressing up as a woman to deliver a note, this episode feels like something pulled off a 20-year-old episode of “Scooby Doo” with some hipster flair attached for good measure.

We’re not complaining and you won’t be either. Like the past few episodes, it’s a fun one. With George’s cancer scare out of the way and Ray enjoying the success of his comic, everyone is happy but Jonathan. It doesn’t matter that he gets to spank one of his sexy female students after class or that he’s becoming a much better detective, he’s just a morbid dude.

This dichotomy seems to be the formula this season and all in all, it’s been a worthwhile one. Overall, the show is always full of surprises and the ones in this episode don’t disappoint.

While this isn’t the coolest case Jonathan has covered this season, the swerves and action involved that thrust Ray and George, as well as George’s new driver, into action make it memorable. Add in killer dialogue, especially from Ray and George and an ending that leads us to worry about Jonathan’s health, the show ends up flying by, leaving you wanting more.

This is the second or third time that’s been the case this season, making you wonder if this season could work in an hour time slot. However, those ruminations are all for naught, as the show works too well in small bursts to be tinkered with.

Nevertheless, if the show continues to put forth wacky and wild episodes such as this, what’s the worst thing that can happen- a third season with more than eight episodes?

We’re definitely down for that.
