With four matches, all ending with either no winner or in squash fashion, it’s hard to tell what TNA is trying to do in the ring. With all that’s happened over the past week, this company continues to eliminate the great wrestling that made them a viable option for purists that enjoyed the great athletes and lack of melodrama.
Instead, they have a foul-mouthed imitation of the old WCW, one that continues to fall flat. After a bunch of good shows late in the year and a decent start, this company is running on fumes now.
Make no mistake about it, something needs to be done and soon. This company needs to start developing new stars and creating storylines that work and aren’t scrapped after a few weeks.
It’s time for them to put their game face on.
Matches:
Alyssa Flash vs. Madison Rayne: A complete squash match that continues to try and sell Rayne as a dominant champion. Mickie James came to the ring afterward and threw a challenge of her own towards the champ, setting up a hair match at Lockdown.
Matt Morgan, Winter and Angelina Love vs. Rosita, Sarita and Hernandez: Aside from the nice backbreaker variation finish from Winter, this match was more of a tease, used to promote the new Mexican-America faction. Morgan needs to be pushed properly and matches like this don’t help that process. Able to compete with any of the top guys in the company, guys like him and Samoa Joe are being wasted.
Rob Terry vs. Gunner vs. Murphy for the TV title: A complete sham that all three of these guys were given a shot at a title. In spite of having a great look and a nice F5 finisher, Gunner has a long road ahead of him before fans take him as seriously as both he and TNA would like. At the very least though, he’s the best wrestler of the three, with the most upside.
Rob Van Dam vs. Ken Anderson vs. A.J. Styles vs. Bully Ray: A match that had no winner and got messy at the end. Seeing Brian Hebner make the X sign [one that makes you think something was legitimately wrong] after Bully Ray powerbombed A.J. Styles through a table under the entrance ramp was a scary sight. However and luckily for TNA, it appears to be nothing more than an angle, which is attempting to build Ray as a competent single heel
