Westlake Village, CA – March 30th, 2011 – Guitar Center, the world’s largest musical instrument retailer, has released a new episode of their At: Guitar Center with Nic Harcourt podcast featuring Black Dub, the daring, soulful new project from venerable Grammy Award-winning producer and recording artist Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan, Brian Eno, Willie Nelson and Neil Young). In addition to warm, inspiring interviews with the Lanois, the podcast’s superior production quality takes listeners to the heart of the band’s foundational self-titled album and reveals the intricate chemistry between its accomplished members.
The podcast includes exclusive in-studio performances of “Surely” and “Silverado”. A song that is indicative of the group’s ability to deliver powerful, artful performances, “Surely” couples the subtlety and prowess of Lanois’ guitar playing with the powerful, sultry vocal performances of multi-instrumentalist Trixie Whitley, daughter of the late blues star Chris Whitley.
The jazz and blues-influenced rhythm section, comprised of drummer Brian Blade, provides the perfect blend of depth and energy, blending Whitney’s unmatched vocal style with Lanois’ ability to craft exceptional songs. “I thought I might be writing it for Alison Kraus,” said Lanois. “Trixie was staying at the house at the time and she said, ‘I love that song. Could we have a go at it?’ We just huddled up…recorded it and filmed it right on the spot. It was really beautiful. One vocal take, everything live, no overdubs. We’re lucky to have it, and it’s very reassuring that we can still make music like that.”
Fueled by an intense connection to the art of song writing and performing, and inspired by a spectrum of genres and influences, Black Dub (www.blackdub.net) is a well-received, fresh start for its members.
