West Coast Indie Rockers Deliver Explosive Performances, Offering In-Depth Interviews with Host Nic Harcourt
Guitar Center Sessions Available Exclusively on DIRECTV in 3D and High Definition April 9th
Westlake Village, CA – Guitar Center (www.guitarcenter.com), the world’s largest musical instrument retailer and DIRECTV, the world’s most popular video service, have announced a new episode of Guitar Center Sessions featuring Delta Spirit. In a series of performances and interviews with host Nic Harcourt, Delta Spirit’s Jon Jameson and Matt Vasquez (Middle Brother) discuss the evolution of an indie upstart, from writing songs together and recording at home, to the demands of touring throughout the United States and headlining in Europe. The challenge of forging a music career in this uncertain climate is, in their words, a matter of priorities.
“If you really care about what you’re doing, then you’ll keep doing it,” said Jameson. “If not, then it’s not an easy road. You might as well go get a job a Starbucks; you’ll make more money.”
Delta Spirit has a history of impressing people with their live performances, delivering carefully crafted indie-rock compositions with intensity and energy that rivals that of any touring band. The band’s ability to write complex songs and convey their full spectra live, however, has not always been demonstrated on their studio albums. Jon and Matt describe the tension of creating truthful recordings of their music in the studio that show their full color and intensity, as evident when performed live.
“We realized that there is something that you can’t get across on a record that you can live, and you have to make up for that by exaggerating dynamics a little bit,” said Jameson. “This new album was done partially live, but there were a lot more layers so you could feel that dynamic of a live show, hopefully just by listening to a record.”
Having released a full album titled History From Below June 2010, Jameson reiterated Delta Spirit’s commitment to creating music that evolves each time it is performed.
“Nothing replaces seeing a band live,” he said. “I don’t even think that our songs are complete until they’re played in front of people. Once we started playing them live, they were something new.”
