The PlayStation Network and the Qriocity networks were hacked from April 17 to April 19.
In response to this, Sony has turned off the PlayStation and Qriocity networks, contacted an outside firm and, according to their apology, the company has “re-built” its security system to prevent against future hacks.
Users found out that something was wrong with the service last Wedsnesday when the networks were not operating.
For now, up to 70 million gamers may have been affected.
Sony says that the following information may have been stolen from gamers:
– Name
– Address (city, state/province, zip or postal code)
– Country
– Email Address
– Date of birth
– PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login
– Handle/PSN Online ID
Credit card information, used to purchase games, may also have been stolen, according to Sony. The company has not given any information on how many customers may have been affected.
Affected consumers are being advised to keep an eye on bank statements and to be wary of possible phone and email scams. Experts also recommend a change of passwords.
