After his big spot last week, where he earned the right to fight in the main event in the WWE’s next pay per view, R-Truth opened up RAW in what was an interesting, but still fitting appearance for him. The guy worked hard last week and in spite of his inability to get as over as the company needs him to be, he’s gotten along on his ability in the ring. However, the former NWA champion was unable to make the most out of his opportunity last night. After 25 minutes, he cut a bad promo and performed in quick match that dragged.
It made the show a complete waste of time.
Truth is a mid-carder and to see this guy given so much time to tell a story that not many cared about in the first place, was appalling.
While smoking a cigarette outside the ring, a fan screamed, “Think of the children R-Truth.â€
Maybe the WWE should think about the fans that want to stay awake during the show.
On top of the bad start, the show was riddled with poor matches and little in terms of angle developments.
All in all, it was probably the weakest RAW so far this year.
Not even the Queen of England herself could save the show.
And it didn’t.
It’s a wonder why Cole continues to get so much face time when the company has lost Edge and is in desperate need to push some new faces. Instead of Cole on camera for 10 minutes, a squash-match- not involving Sheamus, or a technical bout with Daniel Bryan would have been so much better. Overall, whoever thought it was a good idea to have Cole on camera, had a point, he’s a solid heel, but now it’s gone too far.
If it was thoroughly entertaining, it would provide the show some balance, but when every aspect of the show is sub-par, the last thing RAW needed last night was more Cole.
They need more wrestling and story.
Matches:
R-Truth vs. John Morrison: After a deplorable promo by R-Truth, Morrison came in and wasn’t much better. However, he suckered Truth into putting his number one contender spot on the line. It wasn’t much of a match, with Morrison getting the win via the Starship Pain corkscrew moonsault. But hey, at least Morrison will get the push he deserves and appear in the main event for the next pay per view.
The bigger question is, what happened with R-Truth behind the scenes to cause such a big change?
Dolph Ziggler vs. Evan Bourne: Why did Ziggler cut his hair and dye it black? If it wasn’t for his zebra tights, he could have passed for Bourne’s twin. Only in the WWE could a wrestler that hasn’t become a bona-fide superstar be called “new and improved.†As far as his new attitude goes, aside from less posturing, he’s the same wrestler he was before. A missed shooting star press allowed Ziggler to hit a sloppy zig-zag for the win, which makes you think, new haircut or not, this guy still has some work ahead of him.
John Cena and Sin Cara vs. The Miz and Alex Riley: As soon as Cena came out, you knew that was going to happen. What you didn’t expect was the botched mess this match ended up becoming. Cara is an amazing talent, but it’s obvious he’s not quite used to the WWE style. Missing several moves or not hitting them as crisp as he could have, Cara is a high-spot guy, but hasn’t shown an ability to tell a story in the ring…yet.
Nikki Bella w/Brie Bella vs. Eve Torrez: Two botched moves to start the match hampered the beginning of this contest. The fact that it only lasted about another minute didn’t help much more. All in all, it was transition fodder with three great-looking ladies.
Sheamus vs. Santino Marella: A squash match. Marella didn’t mount any real offense and Sheamus ended the contest with an ugly mess of his bicycle kick finisher.
Randy Orton vs. CM Punk: a decent match that saw both wrestlers sell a nice amount of offense. But with the New Nexus barred from ringside at the start, the match was essentially void of a real story until after the match. This angle is going nowhere fast.
