Making a ‘Killing’

The suspense, drama, and anticipation has finally arrived as the season finale to AMC’s new drama, “The Killing.” The first season of this new series had its ups and downs, but when all was said and done, it delivered. With this, AMC has decided to give “The Killing” a second season. Unfortunately, fans of the show will now have a long wait until the show resumes. But it should be worth the wait. Overall, the finale to this dramatic first season attempted to fill in the pieces of the puzzle that remained, and once you thought the case was closed, you are immediately pulled back in with a new piece of information that will leave the door open to more questions.

Now all that’s left is to wait for the answers.

And you will.

The final episode of season one, “Orpheus descending,” has both detective Linden and Holder begin to wrap up the case of the murder of Rosie Larson, with a discovery in which they found evidence that points in the direction of Mayor Elect Dean Richmond. There is hard evidence that points in the direction of Richmond, and when both Linden and Holder finally get what they need to put him away, the Larson case is finally closed. The episode starts off slowly, but keeps you hooked as we find out several climactic discoveries on how Larson was killed.

This episode showed displayed several wonderful performances from Mitch Larson [Michelle Forbes] who is the mother of Rosie, in which she decides to leave her family because it will not only have an negative impact on her two sons, but also on her as well. Detective Linden begins to show her emotional side, as the case comes to closer to an end. Her grief for Rosie and how she was murdered starts to take a toll on her emotionally, and she slowly starts to become affected.

A touchy moment in this episode is when Linden says goodbye to her Partner Holder. Although they are two different personalities, they work very well together and make a great team; what was supposed to be Linden’s retirement turned out to be another case. Now that Linden and her son are moving to California, Linden senses relief that she feels the case has come to an end. However, that all changes when she receives a phone call that reveals evidence that not only has her in shock but the audience as well.

Towards the episode’s climax, Linden receives news that will lead into next season. The way season one wrapped up was perfect, and made up for episodes that kept the audience at yawn several instances throughout. Overall season one of “The Killing” ended on a high note. Although there are many questions that are still left to be answered, it will definitely be worth the wait.

The case will continue, and curiosity will increase when season two arrives.
