Aerosmith Returns to the Studio

Aerosmith has officially hit the studio this week to begin work on their 14th studio album, according to a Twitter post by drummer Joey Kramer. Kramer also posted a TwitPic of himself in a studio session and said how “inspired” he felt, calling the experience “a beautiful thing.”

Last month, Joe Perry confirmed to Rolling Stone that the band planned to enter the studio sometime around the second week of July. Produced by Jack Douglas, the album will be their first collection of original material in 10 years since 2001’s Just Push Play.

Earlier this year, Perry didn’t show up to Aerosmith’s writing sessions. Relations between him and lead singer Steven Tyler also became strained, making a new album seem unlikely. Still, the band took to the studio ready to work about a week earlier than planned.

Aerosmith has also planned me an eight-date tour overseas concert to raise money for Japan that kicks off on November 22. They will also hit South America and Mexico before the Japan dates.

“Our prayers are with all of our Japanese fans and the people of Japan,” Perry said in a statement. “They can use all of our prayers and whatever help we can give. We can’t wait to be there and play for the people who have supported us for the past 40 years. Our fans know how much we love them and we are eager to return and give them the show of a lifetime, especially after the tragedy they have recently been through.”

There is no word on U.S. dates, but Tyler will again be starring as a judge on American Idol through May 2012 after the Japanese tour, putting a U.S. tour on hold.
