Curb Your Enthusiasm Coverage: Down Car Periscope

Episode Commentary: Car Periscope

It’s pretty tough to top Rosie O’Donnell, but this episode nearly does it thanks to a racist former TV judge, a one-armed scrabble player and a weird inventor. In spite of all the inherent wackiness this week, the way everything comes together by the end is makes the episode a winner. Why? It’ll remind you of George Costanza. Next to Larry, only Costanza could get himself in a mess quite like this.

And what a mess it is. After finding an inventor with the gadget of the decade (hope you smell the sarcasm here) a periscope for cars, which allows drivers to see up to three blocks ahead to avoid traffic jams, Larry screws up the deal however by offending the inventors chubby wife (Played hilariously by former Sopranos co-star Aida Tuturro), the very reason why he decided to go into business with the guy in the first place.

Obviously, it goes on to make a ton of money and his big mouth hurts him once again.

Confused? Well, Larry seems to believe that men with unattractive wives have better business ethics than men with beautiful ones. This notion leads him to sever ties with his business manager during the course of the episode as well. It seems awkward at first, but lends itself to Larry’s general pomposity and silliness.

You’ll love it.

Overall, after a few mediocre episodes, it appears Curb is back on track. With only a few episodes left in the season, it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
