Curb Your Enthusiasm Coverage: Forgetting Paris

Episode Commentary: Larry vs. Michael J. Fox

In spite of the fact that this week’s episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” was funny, mainly due to the guest star, Michael J. Fox and his interaction with Larry David, it failed to cap the season off the way many could have hoped.

Overall, the ironic nazi-inspired comedy and child homosexuality scenes in this episode had their moments, but were never laugh out loud funny.

Instead, it had them wish for another wacky sex scene with a Middle Eastern woman.

In the end, that was the moment where the season hit its climax. In a way, that episode should have been the finale. After that moment, for the most part, rather than continue with what worked previously, mainly the raunchy and politically incorrect comedy, the creative team was never able to get back on track and turned what could have been riotous laughter into smile-inducing hysterics.

Sure, the excellent work of JB Smoove and Rosie O’Donnell spiced the season up some, but it wasn’t enough. By the end of this episode and Larry and Leon’s exodus to Paris, it’s obvious that this season was ready to be put to bed.

To see Larry wear out his welcome on both coasts was something that was bound to happen and despite its amusing twist, wasn’t enough for a captivating end to the season.

While the end sequence was charming and typical of the program’s structure, it doesn’t find a way to bring the laughs back on a consistent basis. As a result, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” could find itself flown off HBO permanently, left alone in the horrible land of rerun network syndication.

The fact that it frequently travels there proves that this series may be on its last leg.
