SUSAN SURFTONE PREMIERE SURF INSTRUMENTAL LEAD GUITAR PLAYER RELEASES SOLO ALBUM ON OCTOBER 25, 2011

Recorded With RIAA Gold Record Producer Steve Kravac At Jackpot! Studios in Portland, Oregon

Portland, OR – Acme Brothers Records announces new solo album by Susan SurfTone titled, Shore, to street on October 25, 2011. Shore will be available as CD, download and vinyl LP with digital download insert.

Susan SurfTone founded the band Susan and the SurfTones in 1993. In 2000 she moved the band to Portland, Oregon. SurfTone has long been one of the only women lead guitar players fronting an instrumental surf band. She began playing guitar when she was nine years old and once her guitar teacher turned her onto The Ventures “there was no turning back.” And that despite the fact that a woman on lead guitar was frowned upon, scoffed at and in 1966 “the boys wouldn’t let a girl play guitar in their garage bands” SurfTone explains, “at least not in Hudson, NY where I grew up.” Her influences include The Beatles, 1960’s Surf and Garage, The Velvet Underground (she played CBGB’s with her band Black Tights at that time), Rockabilly, late ‘70s and early ‘80s Punk/New Wave, early Rolling Stones and blues masters like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed.

She has toured extensively throughout Europe and has a particularly enthusiastic following in both Italy and Germany (where OmOm Music and Gee-Dee Music have respectively released her music). Some of the bands Susan and the SurfTones toured with include Lords of Altamont (USA), The Balboas (USA), The Aqua Velvets (USA), The Surf Coasters (Japan), The Looney Tunes (Germany), Huskey and the Sandmen (Finland), Pollo Del Mar (USA), The Cadillac Hitmen (USA) and many others. Shore is her first solo album. SurfTone notes “I love working with myself. There’s no arguing and everyone shows up on time.”

Shore was produced, engineered and mixed by Steve Kravac (MxPx, Less Than Jake, Royal Crown Review). The album was recorded and mixed at Jackpot! Recording Portland, Oregon in July and mastered by Michael Hateley (Depeche Mode, Seal, Eric Clapton) at Lotus Mastering (Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Greenday, Madonna, The Ramones).

Guitar Player Magazine enthuses “Drenched with reverby twang, Susan’s period-perfect surf primitivism conjures a San Diego senior prom circa 1962.” Your Flesh Magazine opines “…it’s surprising that this is the first modern surf band I’ve encountered with a female lead guitarist…Susan acquits herself well, relying on tight, clean picking, rolling riffs and sunny, mid-tempo rhythms.” ROCKRGRL concurs “Susan is one of the most exciting guitarists on the scene – surf or otherwise…”

Shore is Susan SurfTone on guitars; Stephi SurfTone on drums; Lynn SurfTone on bass; Avory SurfTone on organ. The twelve tracks on the album are 1. “Shore,” 2. “Jade,” 3. “Tide, 4. “Train, 5. “HuDu,” 6. “Compression,” 7. “Chance,” 8. “Agate,” 9. “Checker,” 10. “Subduction,” 11. “Late,” and 12. “Riders On The Storm.” Tracks one through eleven written by Susan L.
