Episode Commentary: Take The Cake or Are You Packing?
Through the first two episodes, between the witty dialogue, provocative drama and plain ole sex appeal, “Hung†has been extra saucy. With a few different story arcs, the added emphasis on Ann Heche’s character as well as the added drama between Ray, Tanya and Lenore, there’s plenty of traction and room to develop.
Through this, “Hung†has the possibility of being one of the best shows on HBO this fall.
So far this season, Ray [Thomas Jane] has had his hands full with both his customers and the presence of Lenore [Rebecca Creskoff], who wants to destroy “The Happiness Constultants.â€
Although it doesn’t sound like much, the old cliché definitely rings true here: “There’s nothing like a woman scorned.â€
Between stealing Tanya and Ray’s clients and ruining the lives of people she’s never met, Creskoff makes the show so much more than a sexy cable sitcom.
In less than an hour of showtime this season, Creskoff has been at her devious best. This opens up so many possibilities; ones that weren’t even possible before her role on the show was cemented last season. The scene in the bakery alone proved that she is one of the sexiest and talented actors on cable today. While Adams and Jane form a solid duo and get most of the time on the show, Creskoff’s appearances are always worthwhile and smirk inducing.
Her expanded role also allows Jane Adams to be at her quirky best as Tanya.
Wanting to take more of a leadership role with the company, Tanya is out to do big things, [she does, in a way] but Ray doesn’t think she can handle the pressure.
His instincts are right, as Lenore’s new stud, Jason, [Stephen Amell] affirms those suspicions. In an unexpected and wacky scene, Hung’s newest baddie proves Tanya does her best work on top, in a bathroom stall. It was surprising to see the ultra-feminist liberal do something like that, but it continues to prove the creative team is all about the curve-balls thus far this season.
What other things can we expect this season?
With the war between Ray, Lenore, Jason and Tanya just beginning, the craziness is far from over. And to think- at this point in the show last season, it was hard to imagine ‘Hung†making it through the season.
