During the first segment of TNA Impact this week, TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Roode spit in TNA President Dixie Carter’s face.
It should have been TNA Creative spitting in their viewers faces.
If this is what they think passes for quality pro wrestling, they are terribly wrong.
For a company that insists “Wrestling Matters,†they waste as much time with their promos as the WWE does.
But they can’t even say that they have a method to their madness at this point [At least the WWE usually does], as their promos make little to no sense.
Even with some new writers in the room, TNA is still as fresh as week old donut.
The only saving grace of the show was James Storm’s promo work with Kurt Angle. Engaging and full of confidence, Storm could easily become a Dusty Rhodes type of character if TNA creative has faith in him and lets him get truly over.
Aside from that and the great-looking knockouts, this show was a waste of time.
Matches:
Samoa Joe vs. Abyss: Hard to get into a match when it goes to a commercial break after three minutes. In spite of that, Joe and Abyss cut a decent pace, even if the match was routine. At the same time, it’s sad to see both of these former main eventers opening up the show to barely any response. After Bully Ray snuck in and hit Joe with a chain and Scott Steiner distracted the referee, Abyss hit a bland chokeslam for the win.
Mickie James vs. Madison Rayne: This match was emotionless. The routine moves and slow pacing did nothing to differentiate it from any other match these two have had before. James got the win with her jumping DDT, but it didn’t matter. This was a dud.
Garrett Bischoff vs. Gunner w/ Eric Bischoff and Ric Flair: This match was like the Four Tops song, “It’s the Same Old Song.†After Gunner got in the early offense, Bischoff got the sneaky upset win. Not even a Gunner piledriver on Bischoff on the outside could save it from being overtly melodramatic.
TNA Knockout Champion Gail Kim vs. Traci Brooks: This was all Brooks until Karen Jarrett hit the ring and gave Madison Rayne enough time to hit Brooks with the KO Tag Team Title and allow Kim to roll her up for the win.
Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles vs. Bobby Roode and Jeff Jarrett w/ Karen Jarrett: An entertaining match that saw Hardy and Jarrett take the fight backstage and leave Roode and Styles in the ring. Both Styles and Roode did a good job in the few minutes they had together, setting up what can be the best main event on a TNA PPV in quite some time. After Roode worked over Styles with the single leg crab, Styles was working with an “inured†leg and fought back and ultimately won with a roll up of sorts.
