Creepy #7 Review: Two out of Five is Bad

In the mood for horror? Crave the days where you can buy comics filled with horror stories that your parents warned you about? “Creepy” is one of those comics that keep that tradition alive. This month “Creepy #7” has five stories for you that may be of interest. Too bad only two of those stories really hit the mark.

Those two stories are ‘Mud” and “Deep Ruby.” “Mud” is about a bullied kid who creates a monster that terrorizes his enemies. It’s a good, dark and sick story. but with an anticlimactic ending. The artwork is just as dark, creepy and harkens back to the good old days of “Tales from the Crypt.”

‘Deep Ruby” is about a jeweler who is stopped on the street by a shady fellow trying to sell him a ruby. What the ruby really is however creates a nice twisted warning tale about our consumer culture. The ending also rings true to real life once you think long and hard about it. The artwork, though not as good as “Mud” does fit with the “tract” style the story is trying to portray.

The other three stories fall flat. “The Shroud” tries to be like ‘Deep Ruby” but the story is not well written at all. A guy and his girlfriend win a storage unit in an auction and all they find is a shroud with a demon face on it. Bad things happen after that. Not interesting at all. Top that off with  bad artwork (those facial expressions are not human) and a corny ending and this one is a skip.

“Bloodsuckers” has a small town in Florida being overrun with vampires and the town hired an expert to get rid them. Yawn. Plus, the “Dick Tracy” art style does not match with this type of story.

Let’s not even touch “The Ultimate High” with a ten foot pole. No plot whatsoever. Lazy doesn’t even begin to describe this story.

“Creepy #7” just doesn’t have the right elements horror comic enthusiasts want. If you want to read it, only two good stories get the job done in the issue. Skip the other three. They are not worth your time. Horror comic fans deserve better and scarier stories than this. The Crypt Keeper is not amused.
