Review Fix chats with Moebius designer Jane Jensen about her current project, the Kickstarter campaign behind it and her hopes for the future.
Review Fix: What was the main reason why you launched Pinkerton Road Studio?
Jane Jensen: I’ve wanted to get back to designing 3rd person adventure games for quite some time. And right now the timing is ripe in the industry. I think adventure games are going to be having something of a modest revival among hard-core gamers, plus the casual game audience is a whole new market for this type of game.
Review Fix: Why a sci-fi game?
Jensen: Moebius is what I’d call “soft sci-fi”. It’s not set that far into the future and doesn’t involve space or aliens. It’s more of a metaphysical thriller with a unique way of viewing the world, more like the Fringe TV series.
Review Fix: Why is this game cool?
Jensen: It’s going to be very dramatic and cinematic, have a pop sensibility but also make you think. It will be an updated throwback to classic adventure games.
Review Fix: The concept art for this game is pretty damn cool. How similar will
the game look?
Jensen: We’re working on the first scene now and hope to reveal it in the next week. Like the concept art, it will be 2D but it will be further developed.
Review Fix: Tell us about your Kickstarter campaign.
Jensen: On our current Kickstarter campaign (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1005365109/jane-jensens-pinkerton-road-2012-2013-csg) we’re raising $300K to fund Moebius, which will be our first adventure game title under the new Pinkerton Road studio label. We’ve got a studio model we call CSG or Community Supported Gaming. Being a CSG member is like having a virtual seat in the studio. You’ll get monthly video updates where we’ll show you art and progress on the games we’ve got in development. You’ll also get to alpha and beta test our games early on if you want, and then get the new games before they’re released to the public.
Review Fix: How do you want Moebius to be remembered?
Jensen: My ‘positive thinking’ dream would be that it’s remembered as one of the highlights of a new golden age of adventure games.
