Elvis Presley Hologram in the Works

The King is coming back to reclaim his crown…

On the heels of Coachella’s Tupac Shakur hologram phenomenon, many predicted who would be next to join the ranks of virtual performances—and it looks like the crew who brought back the beloved rapper is now planning to resurrect Elvis Presley.

Digital Domain Media Group and Elvis Presley Enterprises announced Wednesday that they have started working on “a series of digital Elvis Presley likenesses for shows and multi-platform entertainment projects.”

While exact details are scarce, Ed Ulbrich, Digital Domain’s chief creative officer, said that “formal conversations” between them and Elvis Presley Enterprises began after Tupac’s Coachella debut in mid-April. The Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy reports that the visual effects department started work earlier this week.

It is still unknown, however, when Elvis will be back onstage or if he will once again reign over Las Vegas. Elvis’s age and weight are also not quite decided, though Ulbrich explains that a “fat Elvis” is not very likely.

“The idea is that we’re creating Elvis in the most favorable light, and we’re presenting him at his best,” Ulbrich said.

Elvis Presley Enterprises has been owned by CORE Media Group Inc. since 2004. The rights to Elvis’s likeness and name are also owned by CORE.
