Jim Carrey Drops Out of ‘Dumb and Dumber’ Sequel

After quickly agreeing to jump back into his role as Lloyd Christmas for a sequel to Dumb and Dumber, Jim Carrey has unceremoniously backed out of the project.

Carrey, 50, was becoming “increasingly frustrated” with the “lack of enthusiasm” from New Line and Warner Bros., the studios producing the film, said his rep.

“I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer,” Carrey said. “After all, it’s implied in the title.”

Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the masterminds behind the original, announced in April that all signs pointed To go.

“We’re getting set to shoot Dumb and Dumber To in September,” Peter Farrelly said. “We’ve got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back.”

To is supposed to be the first sequel to the slapstick classic Dumb and Dumber; however, production is now up in the air due Carrey’s departure from the film.

Dumb and Dumber brought in $127 million when it was released in 1994.

Dumb and Dumber: When Harry met Lloyd, the unofficial 2003 prequel to the film that did not involve Carrey, co-star Jeff Daniels or the Farrelly brothers, failed miserably at the box office, making only $43 million worldwide.

Despite Carrey’s frustration with New Line on this project, he is still set to star opposite Steve Carell in next year’s The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which pits the two actors as rivaling musicians.
