‘Dr. Horrible’ Sequel Officially in the Works, Says Joss Whedon

Fans have been teased time and time again about the possibility of a sequel to the cult favorite internet production Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, though no clear-cut answer has really been given—until now.

Joss Whedon has officially promised that a sequel to the internet show is definitely still in the works, with hopes to go into production “within the next year,” the Buffy creator told Variety last weeky at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills.

The show, which stars Neil Patrick Harris as the titular Doctor alongside Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer and Felicia Day as love interest Penny, has also seen some recent hype after The CW announced that it will give the show its first TV run on October 9 in full to kick off its fall season.

So what’s been the holdup? As Joss explained, he continues “employing the people who will work on it,” placing them in integral roles and positions in his other projects (as Whedon fans know, his projects are very incestuous, with actors, writers and the like all having hands in many of the same projects at the same time).

As Variety notes, Whedon’s co-writers on Dr. Horrible were his brothers Jed and Zack Whedon as well as Jed’s wife Maurissa Tancharoen. Jed and Maurissa went on to write for the Eliza Dushku show Dollhouse and are co-writing a pilot based on S.H.I.E.L.D. for Marvel and ABC. Meanwhile, Joss still also has hands in the Marvel universe, already signed on to write the sequel to The Avengers.
