Charming ebook for kids ages 4 to 10 is the first studio release from Jane Jensen’s Pinkerton Road
Lola and Lucy, the English bulldog mascots of independent game studio Pinkerton Road, are waddling onto the App Store today with Lola and Lucy’s Big Adventure for iPad. This fun and colorful storybook is bursting with interactive content created by Pinkerton Road’s cofounders, game industry veterans Jane Jensen and Robert Holmes. Lola and Lucy have always enjoyed a cushy life in Vermont with their loving family, but this suddenly changes when a friend at the dog park reveals that every self-respecting dog should have a job. Herding dogs round up sheep and Dalmatians work with firefighters, but what exactly is a bulldog meant to do? Determined to find out, Lola and Lucy embark on a cross-country journey that takes them from New York City to the Midwest and all the way to California in search of their “true purpose” in life — only to realize thousands of miles from home that they knew what it was all along.
Specifically designed for a touch interface, this content-rich ebook has 29 vivid scenes, with tons of hidden sounds and animations to discover and 14 unique mini-games to keep kids entertained. Young readers of all skill levels will enjoy the fun and heartwarming story, thanks to voice narration coupled with easy-to-read text. Plus, two versions of the story are included — a simpler Picture Book and more comprehensive Chapter Book — so kids can grow up with Lola and Lucy. Lola and Lucy’s Big Adventure also has educational features, including an interactive U.S. map that tracks the dogs’ travels and encyclopedia-style entries that describe the “jobs” of different dog breeds.
Jane Jensen and Robert Holmes founded Pinkerton Road earlier this year to create high-quality story games for kids and adults. The studio is headquartered on the couple’s Lancaster County farm, and the bulldogs in the story are based on their real dogs. “Lola and Lucy’s story has been a long-imagined project of ours,” Jane explains. “With more and more parents relying on tablets to entertain and educate their kids, now is the perfect time to bring this story to fruition as an ebook for iPad. This is our new studio’s first self-funded release and is very near and dear to our hearts.” Pinkerton Road worked on Lola and Lucy with Russian developer Signus Labs, who contributed artwork and programming to the title.
