Walking Dead Coverage: What Happened?

Episode Commentary: Say the World

It is safe to say that this week’s episode of “The Walking Dead” was not the best. Other than exquisite CGI sequences when walkers were getting sliced and diced, the two story lines transitioning back and forth from the prison back to Woodbury lacked the excitement of previous episodes.

What was interesting is that we find out some more shocking details regarding the governor and Rick’s state of mind after what happened to Lori. Although this episode was not as good as the previous ones this season, that does not make it a bad thing. Sometimes a bit of bad can be a positive in order to build up for the remaining episodes that are left this season.

There is no reason for panic, that’s for sure.

“Say the Word” starts off with the governor grooming his daughter’s hair, but the shocking revelation about this situation is that she is a walker. Thus far, the governor has more secrets, each beginning to unravel as each episode goes on. While in Woodbury, Michonne sneaks into the Governor’s home and discovers some more secrets, one of them being walkers kept in his own backyard. After discovering these walkers, Michonne finally decides to leave Woodbury without Andrea.

Back at the prison Daryl and Rachel head out to a house with baby formula, while Rick has gone mad and heads back into the prison to take out the rest of the walkers inside. Rick is clearly angry and snaps. Glenn, trying to help Rick, feels his wrath by getting chocked and shoved. Glenn clearly sees that Rick is in a terrible state and decides to walk away.

Towards the end of the episode we see The Governor take Andrea to what at first sounded like a concert, but instead ended up being a cheesy fighting match that involved walkers tied up in a circle ,while Merle and Caesar with the rest of the town looks on. This was the governor’s way of lighting the mood and sharing entertainment, sort of like a UFC match surrounded by walkers. Andrea however did not like the idea and was visibly upset.

This part of the episode was a major let down. It did not seem creative or suspenseful at all. It is a major reason why there was excitement and good feeling an audience would have when it concluded. The closing minutes of this episode shows Rick still in the prison in which was an interesting ending, leaving the audience curious on what will happen next.

Overall this episode was quite boring- definitely the weakest this season. On a positive note, it does look like the remainder of the season will create massive drama and go back to the show we all enjoy and love.
