There wasn’t much to smile about this week on Impact, but several stars made the most of their time in England. More creative issues than problems with their usually stellar in-ring product, TNA lacked the burst of energy it’s had over the past few weeks.
Check out our weekly power rankings to see who wasn’t a waste of time on Impact.
5: Rockstar Spud: The 2013 British boot camp winner, this kid has charisma and talent. He’s got the Motor City Machine Gun-look that will definitely get over with the ladies and the rockers. With a solid worker like Robbie E in need of an angle, this just makes sense. If he gets a shot, things could get interesting in the mid-card.
4: Rob Van Dam: RVD is so solid that he can watch two young lions like Zema Ion and Kenny King work their asses off for most of a match and still come out with a victory. Despite his “day off†appearance this week, the offensive machine continues to push a solid pace in the ring. In the end, he’s one of the better X-Division Champions the company has ever had. If only he had more time on the microphone and a real angle.
3: Austin Aries and Robert Roode: These guys are gold together. Funny, solid in the ring and both excellent on the microphone, they are easily the best tag team combination the company has had since Roode and James Storm dominated the division years ago. Now they just need a real team to wrestle against.
2: Sting: He was the new member of the Dudley Boys this week as he did his best Devon impersonation. At the same time, Bully Ray emulated enough of the Stinger to show his respect. Hitting Doc with his signature offense throughout the match, Sting may be TNA’s elder statesman, but he’s still “got it.â€
1: Bully Ray: Sure, he ain’t a “Good guy,†but Bully is riding high as a singles wrestler. His promo work continues to improve and he’s in the best shape of his career. TNA fans may not see it, but this is Ray at his absolute best right now. Enjoy it. He has arrived.
