“When you ride with the Aces and Eights, you’ll never ride alone,†Bully Ray, during his first promo as the TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Bully Ray’s win over Jeff Hardy at Lockdown was huge, but AJ Styles’ return raises even more questions.
With Styles’ presumed heel turn, who will save the company from The Aces and Eights? The entire roster is filled with heels or old, washed up faces. Something needs to change fast; otherwise the company will destroy itself creatively.
Aside from the gang doing whatever they wanted, little else went down this week on Impact.
TNA needs a hero.
Matches:
TNA Tag Team Champions Robert Roode and Austin Aries vs. Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez: The match never happened. The Aces and Eights dismantled Guerrero and Hernandez before the champs ever made it to the ring.
Gail Kim and Tara w/Jessie Godderz vs. Knockouts Champion Velvet Sky and Mickie James: Sadly, this was almost the best match of the night. Sky and James had several unique double team maneuvers early in the match, but Tara and Kim fought back with solid heel tactics. Later in the match, Tara and Kim added a few double team moves of their own. Sky took control of the match, but Kim once again hit Taryn Terrell to change the pace of the match. When the referee got involved and struck Kim, Tara capitalized with a Widow’s Peak on James, who just hit a top rope Thesz Press on Kim. With Tara preoccupied, Sky nailed her with the modified Pedigree, the “In Your Face,†for the win.
Robbie E. vs. Rob Terry: A sloppy match that saw Terry win with a variation of the Alabama Slam. After the match, he danced. Snore.
Christopher Daniels w/ Frank Kazarian vs. James Storm: “The Cowboy†had some early troubles against “The Legion of Boom.†Even though he won the match with The Backstabber, Kaz and Daniels beat him up after the match. AJ Styles made the save, but took out Storm as well. With longer hair and a beard, this isn’t the same Styles of old.
Sting vs. Austin Aries w/Robert Roode: Naturally, Aries and Roode were unable to work together and Sting was in control. With some fun on the outside including a Stinger Splash, Sting was out for blood. Once Roode got thrown out of the match and referee Brian Hebner was focused on him, Aries went to work. But when he tried to apply the Scorpion Deathlock, he couldn’t remember what leg to lead with. That gave Sting another chance. After a Gorilla Press Slam, Sting countered the Brainbuster into the Scorpion Death Drop that Aries managed to kick out of. After another splash in the corner, Sting had Aries dead to rights with the Scorpion Death Lock in the center of the ring. Just when you thought it was over, The Aces and Eights hit the ring and destroyed Sting.
