Hell’s Kitchen Coverage: Jeremy Hasn’t Spoken

From hungry big men to bad omelets, this week’s episode was…different.

The chefs’ morning began with them seeing a dining room table filled with every protein imaginable. There was also another table with four domes. That was for the day’s challenge. That challenge was for each team to split up into pairs, taste and identify each protein underneath the domes. The team with the fastest time wins.

The Blue went first with Jon and Michael as the first pair. Their first dish was turkey meatballs and it took them eight tries and 4 ½ minutes to figure it out. Some of the weirder proteins they tried were venison, kangaroo, and goat. Dan and Zach guessed chicken for their chicken tacos on the first try, which proved once again that Zach is a force to be reckoned with. In total their time was 10:33.

Blue hoped Red would do much worse. Ja’nel and Jacqueline guessed turkey on the first try (sorry Jon and Michael.) Nedra and Jessica were the worst for the Red on the duck enchiladas. They got it right after eight tries and choosing non duck tasting items like venison, buffalo, beef, rabbit and kangaroo.

The red walked away with a win with 3:56 left. Their prize was a day at a $50 million beach house in Malibu. It’s a good thing Nedra was able to fit back there with two other people in that convertible. At the house they spent the day paddle boarding with pro volleyball player Gabrielle Reece and pro big wave surfer Laird Hamilton. The women didn’t so much as paddle board as hang on to the board and then fall off. Cyndi couldn’t even stay on the thing.

The men, on the other hand, had to spend the day baking bread. That also included milling the wheat the old fashioned way, with mortar and pestle and then putting it through a hand-powered mill. All that hard labor had its toll on Jeremy. He had to be rushed to hospital for dizziness and headaches. Not to mention he’s an ex-stroke patient. He returned later that night with the diagnosis that he wasn’t eating. A big guy like that not eating?

After bread baking at 4:00 AM, the Blue and Red teams were called by Ramsay for their next challenge. They had to make breakfast for doctors, nurses and EMTs. The team to finish first wins. This was the dinner service part of the show. Not that much happened here to talk about.

On Blue, Ray complained that his pan is too small for his omelette and dropped one. In a call back to the first episode, Jeremy once again cannot repeat the order that Ramsay had told him. That wasn’t the worst he did: he put the sample scrambled eggs up to the pass. He should have known better. Other than that, it went smoothly.

On Red, Nedra used a soggy English muffin instead of a toasted one for her eggs Benedict. She blamed her not being a morning person for it. The biggest problem was the pancake station that Jacqueline was manning. There pancakes that were too dark or were flipped wrong. This would cost them when it came down to the last ticket.

Nedra lost it in the dorm when Cyndi suggested her for elimination. In the end the Red chose Jacqueline and Mary for elimination. Ramsay told both to get back in line and instead chose- a “To Be Continued” screen to pop up.

Tame is the perfect word to describe this episode. These chefs are a bit too good for “Hell’s Kitchen,” even if some of them can’t tell the difference between turkey and goat or duck and beef. The show makes it look like Nedra is going home next time, but maybe Ramsay is sending Jeremy home.
