Review Fix chats with film and television veteran Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone, Curb Your Enthusiasm) about her role in Bibo Bergeron’s “A Monster in Paris,†which was released on DVD this week via Shout Factory.
Review Fix: How did you feel the first time you read the script for “A Monster in Paris”?
Catherine O’Hara: I liked the idea of a monster flea singing beautifully with a young chanteuse and I wanted to see it animated.
Review Fix: What do you think is the film’s biggest selling point?
O’Hara: The film is original. It’s subtler than your average American animated feature and like in Tim Burton’s films, its artwork is beautiful. It has smart humor and a monster that can sing. The songs are great.
Review Fix: What was it like working with Bibo Bergeron?
O’Hara: He was very clear about what he wanted me to do but also open to ideas. We also got the job done in one session. I hope to work with him again.
Review Fix: How did you feel when you saw the finished product?
O’Hara: It’s a visually beautiful movie with a sweet and funny story. The action near the end is exciting and I love the original songs in the film.
Review Fix: Considering all you’ve done in film, how do you want this film to be remembered in regards to your legacy?
O’Hara: I only play a small part but I’m proud to do that in such a lovely movie.
Review Fix: What are you working on now?
O’Hara: I’m in two films, “A.C.O.D” and “The Right Kind of Wrong,†that should be released soon.
