Gut checks, contract signings and other filler stole the light from Impact Wrestling this week. The matches were lackluster, the promo and jabber uninteresting- Impact is in terrible shape.
Last week there was no Kenny King and the Tag Team Champions Austin Aries and Robert Roode were absent. This week it was Matt Morgan, Sting, Christopher Daniels, Frank Kazarian and King not on the show.
Add in a mess of a promo between Hulk Hogan, AJ Styles and James Storm and Impact failed to deliver on a plethora of levels. Not even a huge 10-man tag match could solve the inane episode.
Away from an enjoyable, but rushed X-Division match this show was simply boring.
Something needs to change and fast.
With a slew of good matches on the way next week, perhaps that change will happen sooner or later.
Matches:
Gail Kim and Tara w/Jessie Godderz vs. Taryn Terrell and Knockouts Champion Velvet Sky: Newly appointed referee Joey Ryan gave the girls thorough searches before the match and made sure none of the girls had “foreign objects†in their tights. He also refused to count pinfalls and instead stared at the posteriors of the competitors. After a Cross-Body Block and a slew of solid clotheslines, Terrell had this match won, but Kim got a handful of trunks and got a quick count from Ryan to earn the win.
Gut Check Adam Pearce vs. Magno: A mediocre match between two solid indie workers. While both guys had their spots, they had no chemistry. Magno looked uncomfortable and rushed some of his high spots and that ultimately hurt Pearce, who countered Magno’s maneuvers into his spots. Peace ultimately got the win with a rollup and “help” from the ring ropes.
X: Division Qualifier: Mason Andrews vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Petey Williams: It was easily the match of the night. Tons of offense and quick counters in a fun, but short X-Division match. The final rundown was an interesting one, as Andrews got in a solid flying knee and Dutt hit his flipping reverse DDT. Williams finished it off with the Canadian Destroyer for the win.
Ten Man Tag: Aces and Eights: TNA Television Champion Devon, Mike Knox, DOC, Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco vs. Magnus, Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe and Joseph Park: Both teams beat the crap out of each other for 10 minutes, but the Aces and Eights came out on top after Doc hit Park with a low blow and a quick cover.
