For nearly a month, TNA has been on a mission to bore.
While the card for next week’s show looks to be one of the better one’s this year, this week’s show was completely lackluster.
Check out our weekly power rankings to see what stars managed to shine on a cloudy episode of Impact.
5: Joey Ryan: The king of sleaze made sure the Knockouts match was hilarious. A guy that screams charisma, TNA has to find a way to get him on television more often. With Matt Morgan now apparently on his own, Ryan deserves a long-term angle in the X-Division or maybe even a shot at the Television title. He doesn’t have to win either. He just has to be able to compete on a consistent basis. One of those good-bad guys, Ryan can be a force on the lower-mid-card.
4: AJ Styles: Sure, James Storm ruined the moment with a terrible promo, but the decision Styles faces is an interesting one. If Styles joins the Aces and Eights, the club gets a legit performer and the credibility they sorely need. If he stays with TNA, the battle with the gang won’t change completely, put it does give TNA a lift. After years of doing the right thing, expect TNA to play the Sting-Crow angle. Styles will take his time making a decision and cause plenty of drama along the way.
3: Petey Williams: It wasn’t his best performance with the company, but Williams made the X-Division fun again this week. The thought of a Williams encounter with Kenny King is enough to make any wrestling fan salivate. TNA needs Williams back in the company terribly. The fans loved to see him back.
2: Kurt Angle: While all the “faces” in the ten-man tag match had some moments to shine in the ring, Angle is their leader both on the mat and on the microphone. Although he’s on the last leg of his career, he’s still got some mileage left. He’s a great face when used properly and it looks like he’s going to be in the center of this angle moving forward. That’s a good thing.
1: Aces and Eights: The gang not only won their ten-man tag team match, they provided the only interesting segments with the final Brooke Hogan/Bully Ray confrontation and a laid back look at the club during a “meeting†earlier in the show. There are plenty of things wrong with TNA right now and while the Aces and Eights aren’t perfect and can be tweaked, they are the only remotely intriguing aspects of the show right now.
