The Bound for Glory Series kicked off in grand fashion this week on Impact, with some surprise victories and fantastic matches.
Check out our weekly TNA Power Rankings to see who’s in the driver’s seat through the first week of the epic tournament.
5: Mr. Anderson: The only member of The Aces and Eights in the Bound for Glory Series, Anderson needs a respective showing to keep the club relevant. Although he needed help from DOC to defeat Joseph Park, a win is a win. An excellent worker and completely charismatic, Anderson’s success is without a doubt linked to the continued survival of the Aces and Eights. Expect a deep run in the tournament and a top three finish in the BFG for the former World Heavyweight Champion. Don’t let his continued drama with DOC fool you, Anderson and the club still matter.
4: Austin Aries: Did Aries give the big Jay Bradley the Brainbuster? Yes he did. Although his stock has declined in TNA over the past few months, Aries is still a former World Champion with a plethora of skill and charisma. Because of that, don’t be surprised if Aries stick around in the tournament longer than anyone else expects.
3: Christopher Daniels: This guy, more than anyone in TNA, deserves a real World Title push. Although injuries and age have dimmed his star-power a bit, even at 90 percent capacity, he’s one of the best workers in the company. Like Anderson, expect Daniels to place in the top three in this tournament. A World Title run is the missing piece in his TNA career and time is running out for the company to get the most of him in such a role.
2: Magnus: This guy has the look, the charisma and the skill set. he just needs to put it together. His submission win over Frank Kazarian may be the beginning of that journey. Although he needs a few more solid moves in his arsenal, his offense is typically polished and smooth. The Texas Cloverleaf may not be a Dragonrana, but it’s a start for the UK upstart.
1: AJ Styles and Samoa Joe: Styles’ new routine is markedly different from his high-flying matches of old, but he’s still entertaining. The same thing goes for his new gimmick. Dark and no longer TNA’s golden boy, Styles is still the fan favorite.
The same thing goes for Joe. A perennial fan favorite, Joe has simply been the victim of bad booking. With no need for a gimmick change, joe just needed to get back in the ring with someone who brings out the best of him. The renewed rivalry between Joe and Styles not only benefits both competitors, it benefits the company as well. While it may also mean neither one with win the Bound for Glory Series, the matches alone with be a highlight on PPV cards all year.
