Narco Terror: First Thoughts

Deep Silver’s “Narco Terror” is a twin-stick shooter fan’s dream come true.

Frenetic gameplay, coupled with a wild story (that takes a page out of every awesome ’80s action flick ever made) and it’s extremely hard not to dig “Narco Terror.”

The only way “Narco Terror” could be passable is if you have no pop culture wherewithal or you aren’t a fan of the genre. Every one else will find it a simplistic playing shooter that drips fun. From the cut-scenes to the destructible environments, “Narco Terror” also has plenty more polish than the average downloadable title.

The waves of enemies and quick reflexes you’ll need in order to kill them will remind every 30-something gamer of titles the likes of “Smash TV” and “Contra.” Although it may be a stretch to say “Narco Terror” belongs in the same league as those classics, it’s easy to say it’s comparable in gameplay and bigger in scope.

Simply put, “Narco Terror” is what promising, but ultimately lackluster titles the likes of “One” and the reboot of “Bionic Commando” should have been.

After a few levels, the tried and true gameplay doesn’t wear thin. With multiple weapons, an engaging story, old-school controls and multiplayer options, the insanity is in full supply.
