Thoughts for TNA’s TV Title

After Abyss defeated Devon for TNA’s TV title a few months ago, the belt ironically disappeared from television all together. While many consider the title itself to be a joke, TNA can still save the seemingly useless piece of metal and leather.

The way it could go down is simple. An appearance from Abyss, vacating the title to focus in destroying the Aces and Eights would be the start. A run-in from a big part of TNA’s under-utilized roster, performers the likes of Jay Bradley, Rob Terry, Eric Young and hell, even Christopher Daniels could then make their way to ring and say they want the thing.

After a month-long tournament, Daniels could win it and then groom a young babyface for a run with the belt.

Sounds good on paper, but it’ll help the cause that the title this time would be defended every week. No longer will it be important for a month and then fade away into obscurity. Much like how the US Title in WCW or the Intercontinental Title in WWE were/are used, the TV title would show off the best young stars in the company. Someone like Bradley would make a fun champion-the more Boomstick the better. It could also be the thing to give Magnus some more credibility, since he’s never won a singles title in the company.

Another caveat- you’d have to weigh more than 225 pounds to hold the belt, which would eliminate the X-Division stars from competing in the division.

Then how would Daniels be the TV Champion? That could be the fun part. Daniels could weigh himself in front of the crowd and be a solid 225 and later, after he’s won the belt, instant replay could show he had a lead martini glass or ankle weights under his jeans while on the scale, something funny to draw intrigue to the belt.

With a lack of real drama on Impact these days, a rehash of the TV Title could be a great way to fill the show with meaningful entertainment. It could also reinvigorate a roster in desperate need of fresh matchups.
