John Cena’s promo to start RAW set the scene for the future. Triple H’s promo at the end of the show confirmed it.
The WWE’s future will have everything to do with Daniel Bryan.
The next four to six months, without the recuperating Cena, will feature a plethora of fresh match-ups and brand new angles.
It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be even better once guys the likes of Randy Orton and Bryan have an opportunity to grow more and then face a healthy Cena.
The developing angle with Triple H and the McMahon’s and Bryan may be one of the better written storylines in years. As long as they continue to give Bryan mic and ring time and don’t let the McMahon’s and Triple H take it over completely, there’s really no way they could screw it up.
Bryan is that “over” right now.
The same thing goes for the continuing angle between CM Punk and Paul Heyman. The only way that could get boring is if Punk decides to pick on more rotund fans for no reason.
Matches:
Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow: After a thriller at Summerslam last night, these two had another high-energy bout. After a series of counters, Rhodes, who used a beautiful Moonsault earlier in the match, won via Rollup.
Layla and Divas Champion AJ Lee vs. Naomi and Cameron: Nothing special as Lee and Layla worked over the Funkadactyl’s to only lose thanks to Rollup from Naomi.
Dolph Ziggler vs. United States Champion Dean Ambrose and WWE Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins: Ziggler sold his tail off, but after a Dropkick and Fameasser, he nearly beat The Shield by himself, until Reigns destroyed him with the Spear.
World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Sin Cara: The challenger apparently hurt his wrist after a suicide dive, giving Del Rio a quick win. After the match, Ricardo Rodriguez hit the ring and announced he had a new client, Rob Van Dam.
Antonio Cesaro and Jack Swagger w/Zeb Colter vs. Darren Young and Titus O’Neil: Cesaro’s strength is nearly unmatched n the WWE and his continued growth with Swagger in Tag Team action isn’t anything to laugh about either. While the PTP got in their licks, Cesaro and Swagger were tighter. Young earned the win with the Gut-Check on Cesaro though after all four competitors mixed it up.
The Big Show vs. The Shield: Show took care of Reigns with a Spear early on, but Reigns hit a Spear of his own and earn his team the win. After the match, the trio triple-Powerbombed the Super Heavyweight.
Bray Wyatt w/ Luke Harper and Erik Rowan vs. R-Truth: Wyatt destroyed R-Truth with Sister Abigail and the quick win.
Jimmy and Jey Uso vs. Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater w/Drew McIntyre: 3MB used typical heel tactics and quick tags to get an early advantage, but the Usos made the comeback and won with the Super Kick/Suicide Dive/Splash combination.
The Miz vs. Wade Barrett: A decent match that tried to give these two something to fight for. Both are talented and have plenty of potential, but it was hard to find a reason to care. Miz had Barrett in the Figure-Four until Fandango hit a Diving Leg Drop on Miz to throw the match out.
