Hulk Hogan’s alleged deal with 2K Sports to get him into “WWE 2K14” has gotten just as many headlines as Miley Cyrus’ antics at the MTV VMA’s a few weeks ago.
And just like Cyrus’ wild dance, does anyone really care about Hulk Hogan anymore?
Does he matter?
The answer, sadly is no.
Even if he did sign a deal with 2K or has an existing deal like many fans have said online, it only confirms one thing about professional wrestling. As much as some say these guys are like a family, the “sport” is like any other job. It’s about money and staying pertinent. The same reason why former ECW main man Paul Heyman left his company in dire straits to film that disaster of a film “Rollerball, Hogan, too went to line his pockets while one of his responsibilities laid down in financial limbo like Cyrus with a foam finger around Robin Thicke’s junk.
Ultimately, the Babe Ruth of wrestling Hulk Hogan, is no different from a self-important, money-owing, confessed manipulative liar/ maniacal creative genius the likes of Heyman.
But at least Heyman doesn’t hide from what he is. That’s why fans still appreciate and respect him.
More than a decade since his last run as WWE Champion, Hogan hasn’t mattered in quite some time, but many fans continue to hope he could have the same success he’s had in the past.
It’s not going to happen. TNA is a disaster- a sinking ship much the way WCW was, with older stars hanging on to a paycheck, ruining what could be a solid product. Hogan is as much to blame for TNA’s misfortunes as Dixie Carter, Eric Bischoff and anyone else is concerned. He’s not a solution. He’s just another problem. One that could kill the biggest independent wrestling promotion in the country if he doesn’t smarten up, soon.
50 years from now, Hogan’s name will still matter. Much like Bruno Sammartino, Lou Thesz and Ric Flair, he’ll have a legacy, in the ring. But all of this nonsense with TNA, at the end of the day, will be lucky to garner a few references on Wikipedia.
