Resident Alien: Suicide Blonde #1 Review: On the Road

It looks like the show is headed to Seattle.

After the events of Resident Alien: Suicide Blonde #0, Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle has a new case on his hands, one that you guessed by the title of this series, is an apparent suicide. It’s also a case that can get personal for the doctor. With a few twist turns and Peter Hogan’s continually stellar writing, the end result is a fun comic that continues to develop Harry’s character in ways you’ll find most enjoyable.

While Harry’s personality is an intriguing one, it’s still developing. Like a child with a curious mind, Harry gets smarter and at the same time, shows more of himself every issue. This is one of the best elements of the comic. Even though he has an ability to retain the planet’s pop culture and is mega intelligent, little things still escape him. His inability to know what the space needle or the iconic TV show “Frasier” are prove he’s still getting accustomed to life on Earth.

Luckily for him, his nurse, Asta, who is aware of Harry’s “abilities,” is along for Harry’s journey to Seattle for answers. Her ability to understand Harry’s penchant for the truth and his purity make them a great duo. With the government’s knowledge of Harry’s whereabouts in the country, Asta’s role is sure to expand as the series continues.

The art of Steve Parkhouse, like Hogan’s writing, is consistently good, but the more gruesome scenes highlight a side of Parkhouse fans of this comic have yet to see. The more “real” and surreal art definitely highlights the voyage Harry is about to undertake.

With Hogan and Parkhouse at the helm, you can bet the ride to Seattle (and the continuing unfolding of Harry’s backstory) is going to be an interesting one.
