Review Fix chats with Madden 25″ Art Director Jean Adams, who discusses how the look over “Madden” will change on next-gen consoles, as well as how the development process for the title has been.
Review Fix: How is “Madden NFL 25” different visually on next generation consoles?
Jean Adams: The next generation consoles are great at rendering more geometry. Through our new EA SPORTS IGNITE tech, we are able to render 70,000+ crowd members, every blade of grass on the field and incredible detail in jerseys and player faces.
Review Fix: How much time and effort went into fine tuning the animations for the game?
Adams: Thousands of man of hours go in to making sure everything moves in a believable way. It all starts with motion capture, then the rigging of digital skeletons. We then apply the animation to the rigs and clean up any anomalies that may appear. From eye blinks to fingers and hands, all joints rotations have to be perfect in order to deliver a realistic representation of the NFL. This takes a lot of effort and talent to get right and I think we nailed it.
Review Fix: What are you most proud of when it comes to the look of the game?
Adams: I’m most proud of the in game lighting, from the warm magic hour to the icy cold snow games. It’s all very dramatic yet realistic to the NFL.
Review Fix: What was the development process like?
Adams: The development process required that we work with hundreds of talented people both here and in other parts of the world. It was definitely an epic joint effort by many artists, developers and designers.
Review Fix: What did you learn from this game and how will it impact the game moving forward?
Adams: We learned a lot about the new hardware and will be elevating the realism of the game based on these findings. We have some really exciting features on the horizon.
