Review Fix chats with ‘CoachGlass’ developer Brad Lippman to find out how the new gameplay feature for the Xbox One version of “Madden NFL 25†will change the way is played, as well as the inspiration and development process behind it.
Review Fix: How did the idea for the feature come about?
Brad Lippman: We wanted to make football strategy accessible for all types of Madden NFL gamers. After exploring a few different options we came up with CoachGlass. We looked at data that NFL coaches use to gameplan against their opponent and started to expose this data through the game.
Review Fix: What was the development process like for the mode?
Lippman: It was a very iterative process. We started with the idea and the knowledge of what NFL coaches use to develop their strategy week to week. We ran playtests with consumers from the early stages where we only had art mocks until we had a fully functioning feature. Through all this feedback and exploration we are shipping an experience that will change the way you play Madden NFL.
Review Fix: How will CoachGlass change the game?
Lippman: CoachGlass will change the way you play Madden NFL because you will start to understand basic level of football strategy, like what defensive formation you should call against any specific personnel group. You are no longer alone in looking for successful plays—play suggestions are given based on success rate in real world situations. For our Madden Ultimate Team users, the eligible receivers will not be a mystery, you won’t have to pause the game to see the offensive line up—it will be displayed for you every pre-play. When playing head-to-head games, you will know for sure when someone is calling the same play over and over because you will be able to easily see the play history and find the most effective play you have been running.
Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy it the most?
Lippman: I think all Madden NFL gamers are going to find some aspect of CoachGlass they won’t be able to play without—from the novice users that are going to rely on the play suggestions to the hardcore user that will analyze the play history.
