It took Impact wrestling 35 minutes to get to a match this week.
The big hold up? Silly pandering between new TNA World Heavyweight Champion, TNA Owner Dixie Carter and Bully Ray, as well as the return of Mr. Anderson.
It was poorly done and a waste of time. This new heel Carter is not believable and the Aces and Eights have lost all their steam. At this point, you have to wonder how long TNA can last like this. With a slim card and mundane storyline, TNA continues to barely squeak by.
Promo work from Kurt Angle and the possibility of a long-term feud between the Olympic gold medalist and didn’t help either.
This company is doomed.
Matches:
TNA Knockouts Champion Gail Kim w/ Lei’d Tapa and Brooke Tessmacher vs. Velvet Sky and ODB: A sloppy tag match that ended after Tapa botched (missed her completely)a Yakuza Kick on Sky to give Kim and Tessmacher the win.
Ethan Carter III vs. Dewey Barnes: EC3 decimated Barnes in an old-school job-out. Barnes hit a Missile Dropkick and got the crowd on his side, but EC3 won with the Diving Front-Face Bulldog a-la Dean Ambrose.
World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles vs. Bully Ray w/Brooke Tessmacher: This was the only “real” match of the night as it had a clear back and forth with plenty of offense. After about 20 minutes of action, with referee Earl Hebner out of commission, Styles got Ray to tap to the Calf Killer, but it was meaningless. Soon enough, with Hebner still down, Ray used the chain and nearly won. Out of nowhere, Anderson got involved and Styles cradled Ray for the victory.
After the match, Dixie Carter came down to the ring with a contract and asked Styles to sign it. After the crowd told him not to, Styles ripped it up and drove away.
