Track Fix: Otherwise: Die for You

Lyrics sung like poetry, driving guitar riffs, a focused baseline and excellent drum work.

That’s Otherwise’s ” Die for You” in a nutshell.

For those who like their music quick and dirty, Otherwise will instantly captivate. Lead singer Adrian Patrick’s voice is difficult to describe. Booming, with hints of Stone Temple Pilots and POD, Patrick has a wide range. Nothing feels forced. The speedy pre-chorus, the crooning and even the screaming are all polished and sound natural. To say the vocals on this track require intense precision would be a grave understatement.

The same thing can be said for the string and drum work. During the verses, the track is mainly bass and drums. This allows Patrick to drive the track. It’s the chorus where the guitar plays a more prominent role. A bit slower than the verses, the chorus feature the toughness of the guitars. It serves as a transition back to and from the verses and fill out the sound marvelously. Although there isn’t a real guitar solo on the track, the first half minute of the song provides a more than solid dose of six-string goodness.

What gives the song more depth is its meaning. Inspired by the parents of Patrick and his brother Ryan (who is also the lead guitarist of the band) it tells the tale of an indestructible love. With heartfelt lyrics masked behind the powerful guitars and drums, this is a macho man love song. For young rocker couples, this has wedding song possibilities.

Tough, but sentimental, Otherwise’s multi-faceted ballad is like an all-you-can-eat from your ears.
