The Main Event Mafia is finished.
Thank god.
Just like the Aces and Eights, the group has run its course, but with a typical Vince Russo-esque swerve and a Stone Cold reference, the Aces & Eights manage to survive. The group’s “State of the Main Event Mafia†proved that all four members are headed in different directions and with the ongoing drama between AJ Styles and Dixie Carter, the faction is simply flaccid.
Speaking about boring, the return of Pacman Jones, this time with Cincinnati Bengals DE Dequan Evans to squabble with Christopher Daniels and Frank Kazarian, was a waste. Bad Influence is one of the only teams worth a damn in the company. They need a real feud. Not this nonsense. Nothing against Bromans, but they are not it.
It’s truly sad that Knockout Champion Gail Kim is more entertaining in the ring and on the mic than most of the TNA roster.
With Styles now defending his title all over the world and not on Impact, TNA continues to barely swim in the cable TV wrestling waters.
Matches:
Knockouts #1 Contender’s Match: Brooke Tessmacher vs. ODB vs. Velvet Sky: A long tedious match that ended after Gail Kim and Lei’D Tapa got involved. Tapa hit the TKO on ODB and Tessmacher and Kim got the match thrown out after he nailed Sky with the Eat Da Feet. After the match, Kim challenged any woman in any other federation.
Ethan Carter III vs. Dewey Barnes: A quick encounter that, of course, led to a Carter win via the One Percenter.
Christopher Daniels and Frank Kazarian vs. Eric Young and Joseph Park: A decent match that continues a feud that’s enjoyable but doesn’t get the most out of anyone that’s involved. All four are uber talented and deserve better. While the match was enjoyable and athletic, it’s far from the type of match you expect before a main event. After the Appletini in Park’s face by Daniels, Kazarian was able to roll him up for the win.
TNA World Title Tournament: Full Metal Mayhem: Chris Sabin vs. Jeff Hardy: A nine-minute match that was fast paced and barely hardcore. A few garbage can, cane and ladder shots were used, but for the most part, this wasn’t anything brutal or athletically special. One of the match highlights saw Sabin put his fingers in Hardy’s ear piercings while he was upside down in the corner, and pull. After a Twist of Fate, Hardy went for the Super Swanton Bomb on top of the ladder for a solid exclamation point pinball over Sabin.
