Amazing drum work and a catchy chorus highlight Escape the Fate’s new single “Ungrateful.”
ETF frontman Craig Mabbitt’s signature growls and screams highlight the first verse, but a nifty change in his timbre for the chorus is what makes the sound truly enjoyable to the ears. The guy can flat out sing. But, he can scream too. To do just one wouldn’t be enough to show his ability- to do both so well confirms it. The guitar work of the Money brothers, Michael and Bryan is just that.
At times, the song feels like it’s out of the Bullet for my Valentine catalogue, as the shredding and echoing string work is charismatic and personifies the angry tones of Mabbitt’s vocals.
The bass work of TJ Bell and drums by Robert Ortiz also add an extra element to the sound. Banging on his drums the whole track, he accompanies Mabbitt well during the scream sections of the track. The same goes for the supporting bassline, which is more than support and filler.
With such a full sound and a visceral set of lyrics, the sound and word project a furious and intimidating, yet beautiful sound.
The music video reinforces this notion, as after every slam of the drums, the blood flows. A song that addresses bullying and the ramifications of the action itself, the video shows us that everyone gets bullied, even the ones who do it themselves. If you just listen to the song, the message is sent, especially if you prefer the type of arrangement and genre. Non-fans will connect with the video however and find an appreciation for Escape the Fate that thy didn’t have before.
