Juice Squeezers #1 Review: Bugs, Everywhere

Bugs, bugs everywhere. The only ones who can stop a menace like bugs are a bunch of California teens in David Lapham’s “Juice Squeezers.” The problem is this comic needs to be squashed quickly.

Weeville, California is overrun by bugs. The only people capable of getting rid of these bugs are a group of teenagers called Juice Squeezers. Meanwhile, Billy and his dad arrive in Weevile to live on the farm where the bug infestation started.

The story sounds like it could have been a decent teenage adventurers fighting evil story, but that all degenerates into a terrible Disney Channel sitcom. The comic has one of the most overused ideas for bad guys used. How many times has bugs been used in stories?

On top of that, the characters are all flat, uninteresting and are the stupid annoying characters you see on the Disney Channel. The terrible comedy will make anyone over 10 cringe, the characters say some of the stupidest things while they are under attack and the adults aren’t worth mentioning either.

The art is on the same level as the story. It looks like the art is those super cheap “kiddie” comics that are either a dollar or free. The characters faces have no life to them whatsoever. On top of that, the characters themselves are blocky and are devoid of any smoothness whatsoever.

“Juice Squeezers” is a comic with an interesting idea, but falls flat on its face. With a story that reads like something the writers at the Disney Channel can come up with and art that is unappealing it just doesn’t cut it. Throw in some of the worst characterization around and bugs that are there for some lame reason and you get a comic that needs the attention of a good exterminator.
