Review Fix chats with DORYDRIVE Vocalist Mathieu Nevitt, who discusses the band’s upcoming album,”Here’s to You,” their influences and goals for the future. Nevitt also discusses what separates the band’s live and studio performances and how one of the album’s main tracks was written.
Review Fix: What are the band’s goals for 2014?
Mathieu Nevitt: This is going to sound like a broken record with many interviews we are giving. The sky really is the limit. As long as we are able to open the active rock ears we should have a greatly successful year. We know what we have to do and our plans are to follow this single and album until it’s time to go back to the studio!
Review Fix: How was “Here’s to You” written?
Nevitt: It was birthed with a swampy riff and passion for Nashville. Although our intended direction was quickly dismissed, we followed the roots of the lyrics and composed the song around a loop our producer had presented while in pre-production mode.
Review Fix: Who are your influences and how does it tie into the band’s sound?
Nevitt: This record is an example of what we feel works in today’s music industry. There are influences of Rock, Pop and Country. We are taking a leap of faith by establishing our sound around these genres, but we are eager to see how the active rock ear perceives it.
Review Fix: How are your live performances different from your studio work?
Nevitt: I believe that we hold our own live! Nothing is better than being told your live performance exceeds the album. Although we are not heavy by any means, we harness an energetic stage show.
Review Fix: How do you want this album to be remembered?
Nevitt: Maybe an album that took a stand, not staying bias to just one direction. I feel active rock is pigeon holed and could use a bit more variety.
