There’s a heck of a lot going on in TNA right now.
MVP’s arrival has created a slew of new match ups and the upcoming four-on-four battle between MVP’s team and Bobby Roode’s is just the tip of the iceberg. The other angles between Gail Kim and Madison Rayne, Abyss and Eric Young and TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus and Samoa Joe have been executed with much more precision than TNA fans are used to.
With those angles in place and the slow and steady development of Sam Shaw, Willow and Gunner, there’s more than enough to look forward to. When was the last time a TNA fan could say that?
With plenty of intrigue surrounding Bobby Roode’s “retirement,†the battle for the company between MVP and Dixie Carter and the Samoa Joe/Magnus confrontation, as well as Kurt Angle’s induction into the TNA Hall of Fame, TNA continues to build momentum not only for Lockdown, but for their future as a company.
Matches:
Zema Ion, TNA Tag Team Champions Jessie Godderz and Robbie E vs. Samoa Joe: The trio had their way with Joe early on, but the former TNA World Heavyweight Champion fought back and with a unique DDT/Russian Leg Sweep maneuver, coupled with a Suicide Dive and some massive chops. After a nice Urinage Supex on Ion, he followed it up with the Muscle Buster and the Kokina Clutch.
Street Fight: TNA Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne vs. Gail Kim w/ Lei’D Tapa: Thanks to interference from Tapa, a bloody Kim was able to hit Rayne with the Knockouts title and beat the Champion in a non-title match.
Frank Kazarian and Christopher Daniels vs. Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards: The Wolves match up with Ba Influence in a way that makes any real wrestling fan drool. The chain wrestling was solid, but the heel tactics of Bad Influence were just as entertaining. Edwards nearly won with a Stunner variation, but it wasn’t until a pair of Double Stomps from Edwards that the Wolves got the win.
No DQ or Count Out: TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus vs. Gunner: The match wa spretty even most of the way until Magnus asked his friends to help him out. Ironically, James Storm, Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards came down to support Gunner. Magnus tried to slow down Gunner at several point in the match with submission moves, but all that did was energize the crowd. Magnus continued the offense with a Michinoku Driver and a Top Rope Elbow, but Gunner wasn’t done yet. Obviously fed up with Gunner’s resilience, Magnus brought the TNA World Title into the ring, but he couldn’t connect and the stalemate continued. Soon enough, the Bromans and Ethan Carter III hit the ring, but Gunner’s pals took them to the outside and up the ramp to make sure the fight stayed even. After a Powerbomb, Gunner hit the Diving Headbutt, but Rockstar Spud put Magnus’ leg on the ropes to stop the pinfall. With the referee distracted, Magnus hit Gunner with the title, but Gunner was able to kick out. Storm then made sure Spud was no longer a factor and Gunner continued to battle back. After a Slingshot Suplex, Gunner hit the Urinage Suplex, but Storm nailed Gunner with a Super Kick, allowing Magnus to keep the title.
