This week’s Impact had some storyline development and a decent card, but it was lacking in intrigue. Magnus’ run as World Champion has been great for him, but it hasn’t done much for the company. Simply put, there’s a new mix of talent, but it’s still lacking in star power.
When you spend 15-20 minutes of show time on the Beautiful People and Bully Ray, there’s a problem.
With another Kenny King vignette and a surprise promo from Mike Knox, TNA continues to throw smaller bite sizes of fun our way, but these are anything but developments that can change the company. Although they are trying to develop new stars, with their most entertaining performers in the ring, Christopher Daniels, Frank Kazarian, Bobby Roode and Austin Aries not on the show in any way, there was little to call home about.
Matches:
Bobby Lashley vs. Ethan Carter III: Lashly was in complete control to the point where ECIII struggled to just land strikes. When it appeared Lashley was ready to finish off Carter, Willow interfered and beat on Carter to get the match thrown out. After he beat on Carter some more, Willow put Carter’s leg in a chair and stomped on it.
Gail Kim vs. Lei’D Tapa: Although Tapa hit a few moves, but Kim, thanks to a Dragon Sleeper and kicks, was able to stay in the match. After a few minutes of back and forth, Kim beat Tapa with the Eat Defeat to kick her out of the company.
TNA Tag Team Champions Jessie Godderz and Robbie E w/ Zema Ion vs. Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards vs. Tigre Uno and X-Division Champion Senada: After The Wolves and the high flyers took out The Bromans, they started fighting amongst eachother. With all three teams fighting now, double-team moves and heel tactics were a plenty. The Wolves nearly won with an awesome Powerbomb/Back Cracker maneuver, but the Bromans interfered and soon hit Tigre Uno with the Brodown for the win.
TNA World Champion Magnus w/Abyss vs. Samoa Joe w/MVP: Surprisingly, Magnus was in control for a big chunk of the action. Just when Joe began to mount an advantage, MVP and Abyss began to brawl on the outside. When MVP grabbed Abyss’ tacks, The Monster nailed the TNA Executive with a steel chair. When Joe went for a Suicide Dive, Abyss nailed him with the chair as well. With Joe down, Magnus hit the Top Rope Elbow for the win.
