Review Fix chats with Whiskey of the Damned Frontman Eoin McCarthy, who discusses the band’s new album “Monsters are Real.â€
For those who haven’t the slightest idea what Celtic Rock is, McMarthy does us a solid and gives us an easy to understand definition and also goes out of his way to discuss the band’s influences, goals for the rest of the year and creative process.
Review Fix: For those who don’t know, what is Celtic Rock?
Eoin McCarthy: Celtic Rock is a fusion of traditional Irish music and American rock and roll. We try to incorporate the intensity of punk rock with the melodic stylings of early Irish folk music.
Review Fix: What bands have influenced you guys the most?
McCarthy: The list is too long to mention. We all listen to different styles of music. Everything from Against Me! to Coheed and Cambria to The Dubliners.
Review Fix: Why do you think you guys are refereed to as the best band to party to?
McCarthy: It’s probably the energy of the shows. We like to bring mayhem to the stage and get everybody in the audience involved. We like to get people up and moving, singing and dancing along with us.
Review Fix: What song on this album do you think has the most staying power?
McCarthy: I like “ShutDown” and “When it all Comes Down” the most, but for completely different reasons. “ShutDown” is an angry anarcho-political song which speaks about the indifference of the political system, and “When it all comes Down” is a much sadder song about losing friends and loved ones.
Review Fix: Who do you think would enjoy the album the most?
McCarthy: There is something there for everyone. Because our different music styles all blend together in a completely Schizophrenic way, the album really travels through different genres of music. Everything from Punk to blue grass to gypsy to metal. It’s a really fun record.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2014?
McCarthy: Touring, Touring, and more Touring
Review Fix: How do you want this album to be remembered a few years from now?
McCarthy: As a fun crazy step in our career.  We had such a great time making the album we are just happy that so many people are enjoying it.
