Hell’s Kitchen Coverage: Time for Phi

It’s Greek life pride with a helping dose of Southern cooking on a new episode of “Hell’s Kitchen.”

In this episode, Ramsay told the chefs that people you cook with in the kitchen can become like members of a brotherhood/sisterhood. To further this point, Ramsay had the “Phi Mu Sorority” enter the dining room doing their chant. They were there because it was the “Phi Mu Sorority’s” 160th anniversary and wanted to hold their celebration in “Hell’s Kitchen.” A dining room full of sorority girls? Now there’s a fun idea. Also, the blonde has got to be the most perfect example of an airhead.

For the day’s challenge, the chefs had to cook a Southern inspired meal (because they said they were founded in Georgia) for the girls. The dishes were one chicken, one seafood and one beef. The women got their dish ideas quickly, while the men ate up a quarter of their time.

First up was the chicken. Kashia had a classic fried chicken with collard greens, mac and cheese and side of hot sauce. Sounds like a good Southern style dish, huh? Too bad it lost to Jason’s double breaded leg and thigh with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes with white cheddar.

They got the point back with Jessica’s shrimp and grits and then the win with Joy’s ribeye with sautéed string beans.

The Red’s prize was one of “Hell’s Kitchen grandest prizes: a trip to Las Vegas. They stayed in “Caesar’s Palace and they even met Season Ten Winner Christina,

Meanwhile, the Blue had to spend the day setting up the dining room with the “Phi Mu” representatives supervising. You all know how sorority girls can be when they want to set something up, right? They can’t make up their minds for anything. They had the Blue move a table multiple times, dress tables with pink flowers and put glitter on the “Phi Mu” sign. Ralph was so mad he even said “hope this tastes as good as the Red’s *bleep*.”

Dinner service was all about Southern cooking with the winning dishes on the menu. Even though it was a mostly smooth service, both kitchens suffered the same mistake with the fried chicken.

In the Blue Jason kept on sending up undercooked fried chicken. The only other complaint was one time they stopped communicating and the garnish station was behind. They quickly bounced back.

In the Red Kashia and Jessica also kept sending up raw fried chicken. On top of that, Kashia is a Southern girl and should know how to properly fry chicken. She blamed it on Jessica for not checking them. Also, Bev was all over the place. She seemed lost when she brought up the crab cakes. She also couldn’t remember what was in the vegetarian dish (mac and cheese.) She even brought one up cold. Rochelle even had to help her.

The Blue won dinner service and the Red had to choose two for elimination. They chose Bev and Jessica. Jessica even cried in the dorms when the Red said they wanted her up. Ramsay eliminated Bev.

Bev may have been a smart elimination, Jessica wasn’t so much. Kashia should’ve been sent up because the fried chicken was all hers. Another surprise was Jason. He was perfect up to this point and then he messed up fried chicken. He seemed like a finalist but now it looked like it faded away. If he bounces back he can be a finalist with either Joy or Anton.
