With a new Intercontinental Champion and huge wins for Bray Wyatt and The Shield, Extreme Rules 2014 was the type of Pay Per View that could mean a lot more down the road that you would have originally thought.
Check out our Extreme Rules Power Rankings to see who made the first pay per view after Wrestlemania XXX a solid one.
Honorable Mention: Alexander Rusev: His win over R-Truth and Xavier Woods was over before it even started. While he needs a few more moves and more time to develop a personality fans that can actually react to, it’s hard to argue with the formula of power and athleticism he represents while in the ring.
5: Wade Barrett: The new Intercontinental Champion has turned his career around completely after languishing for months in 2013. His win at Extreme Rules over Big E. Langston may be the biggest win of his career. Not since his days in The Nexus has Barrett meant so much to the WWE Universe. With the support of fans and the IC Title, the new Barrett looks to finally make good on the potential he’s had for years.
4: Antonio Cesaro: Domination isn’t the word. Cesaro is a physical specimen and one of the best workers in the WWE today. A year ago, everyone in the independent wrestling community knew what Cesaro was capable of, but for the first time, the WWE Universe is now seeing him as the superstar he truly is. Cesaro doesn’t necessarily need Paul Heyman in his corner, but it certainly helps. For all his haters, this is not Curtis Axel. Make no mistake, this is a future WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
3: The Wyatt Family: While the finish to Bray Wyatt’s match with John Cena at Extreme Rules was a disaster, the Wyatt Family are still a force in the WWE. Where they go from here is unclear, but don’t expect them to let up.
2: The Shield: Their win over Evolution is a statement that these guys are real. If you had any doubts before, they have been laid to rest. The Shield may in fact be the best threesome in professional wrestling since The Freebirds. All three of them managed to have amazing spots and once again proved they can hang with elite WWE talents the likes of Orton and Triple H and an established veteran in Batista.
1: Daniel Bryan: This wasn’t Bryan’s best match, but it worked well with the Extreme Rules theme. The people’s champion, Bryan gave the fans what they wanted- he fought through the fire and flames of Kane and left with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
