Hell’s Kitchen Coverage: Peace Anton

Your taste buds are telling you that this episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” will be yet another wild ride. It’s wilder than ever since Rufio from “Hook” is in the kitchen.

In the dining room ,the chefs were met with four domes each containing a dish Ramsay said caught his eye in how unique they were executed. They were tuna tartar, an ice cream sundae, carrot cake and spaghetti and meatballs. He asked Joy, Anton, Gabriel and Rochelle to taste these dishes.

Suffice to say, the chefs did not like the dishes. Gabriel even said the spaghetti and meatballs tasted like you know what. Turns out these dishes were not what they seemed. These dishes were made to fool the chefs. Looks like Ramsay’s sense of humor can be sick and playful instead of just playful.

This was all a buildup for the ever popular blind taste test. The taste test is always fun to watch just to see the chefs confuse basic ingredients for something else. This year did not disappoint. Some highlights were Joy calling filet mignon “dry ass turkey” (what?) Anton calling anchovies tuna, Gabriel calling mango melon and Jason calling hot dog fish (oh, come on.) It was 5-4 Red when it came down to Kashia and Melanie. Both did not do well. The worst was Kashia thinking bell pepper was squash and Melanie thought it was honeydew (again, how?) The Red won because Melanie didn’t get one ingredient right. Kashia only got cheddar cheese right.

So much for these chefs having chef quality taste buds, huh?

The Red’s reward was ice skating lessons with Olympian Rachael Flatt. The only ones who looked like they knew how to ice skate a little were Anton and Scott. Kashia looked like one of those people who are afraid to fall when they skate, hang on to the side and just complain a lot. Scott tried to do a jumping spin but instead fell right on his back. Very graceful there, buddy.

The Blue team spent the day carrying ice off of trucks, crushing ice and then making ice cream by hand. Jason tried to be a tough guy and carry two blocks at once but dropped one. Rochelle was also using the old crank ice cream without anything in it. Rochelle can be a real air head sometimes.

Dinner service that night was supposed to go smoothly in both kitchens. Sadly, that was only true for one kitchen. Not to mention football player Ryan Pickett and actor Dante Basco (“Hook”) were dining that night.

The Red team started off almost pulling off a perfect service at apps. Kashia stooped the streak by making a scallop dish that was short one scallop. She would make an entire order of scallops instead of just one. She would later make a salmon by braising which is not how Ramsay wanted it. Anton would then make an undercooked chicken which Scott got the blame for because he cut it. Anton would then make a few overcooked Wellingtons.

His elimination became more assured when he started arguing with Sous Chef Andi. There are two rules you never break in “Hell’s Kitchen”: Never argue with the sous chefs and never think about arguing with Ramsay.

The Blue team had a perfect service despite Rochelle undercooking a chicken. Ramsay even praised Rochelle saying she cooks like she has been cooking on a line for five years. Her taste buds may not be the best, nor is she not always there, but she can learn and improve.

Obviously the Red team lost this service and had to choose two chefs. They chose Anton and Scott. Anton got eliminated.

Anton’s elimination was inevitable when his ego popped up. He started off as a favorite and now he’s gone. So much for a good early start for this guy. Rochelle has gotten a lot better recently. She’s still a bit of an air head, though.
