With hints at problems in the marriage of Tyson Kidd and Nattie Neidhart, as well as the end of the BFFs, the storyline developments were few on this week’s NXT. The four matches were nothing special either, away from an athletic main event between Justin Gabriel and Sami Zayn.
After an episode that was fresh and chock full of new faces, the writers at NXT kept NXT Champion Adrian Neville out of the ring as well as Bull Dempsey and Tyler Breeze.
More a building episode than anything else, this week’s NXT was simply filler.
Matches:
Colin Cassady w/Enzo Amore vs. Sylvester LeFort w/ Marcus Louis: Cassady wasted no time and won with the East River Crossing and the Empire Elbow.
NXT Womens Champion Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks vs. Bayley and Becky Lynch: Lynch and Bailey made them work with several near-falls, but after Bayley got taken out of the ring, Flair wasted no time with the Bow Down to the Queen for the win. After the match, Banks attacked Lynch, but Bailey made the save.
CJ Parker vs. Steve Cutler: Parker won over the debuting Cutler with the Heel Kick. After months of his annoying banter, that’s all we get?
Justin Gabriel w/Tyson Kidd vs. Sami Zayn: The best match of the night, that, in spite of a lack of heat between these two guys, had some nice storytelling in the ring. Both competitors hit their share of offense, but Zayn got the crowd going with the Blue Thunder, which he nearly pinned Gabriel with. Zayn scored another near-fall with his Exploder Suplex into the corner, but Gabriel got back in the match with a nice Thrust Kick. Getting advice from Kidd throughout the match, Gabriel was focused throughout. Gabriel then hit a nasty modified Neckbreaker, easily Gabriel’s best move in his arsenal away from the top-rope, but he couldn’t put Gabriel away. After the two countered for a few seconds on the top, Zayn got the win on the ground with the Koji Clutch. After the match, Kidd and Gabriel beat on Zayn until Adrian Neville made the save.
